GLADWELL & PATTERSON

The Client: Gladwell & Patterson, the oldest art gallery in London, was founded by former engraver John Boydell in 1752. The leading European art gallery whose owners include two Lord Mayors of London, is now run by the Fuller family.

Queen Victoria, King Edward VII, King George V, Queen Mary, and the Prince of Wales have all granted the firm Royal Warrants, as variously printmakers, publishers, and art dealers.

The gallery, whose home on Queen Victoria Street was affectionately known as ‘Gladwell’s Corner’, now resides in Beauchamp Place in the prestigious pocket of London’s Knightsbridge.

The Challenge:

Gladwell & Patterson wanted to maximise the impact of their presence in Asia through a strategic digital presence. The gallery attends art exhibition Guardian Fine Art Asia in Beijing every year, fast establishing themselves as the leading art dealer for traditional European art and mid-nineteenth-century paintings.

The gallery was looking to increase brand awareness in the Chinese market, nurture relationships with existing and new customers in China, increase sales and attract Chinese tourists to their Beauchamp Place gallery.

The Solution:

Appt created a bespoke Chinese digital strategy for Gladwell & Patterson, designed to primarily increase brand awareness, facilitate relationship with existing and new connections in China, and increase gallery visits from Chinese tourists.

Appt then assisted Gladwell & Patterson with the creation of their WeChat Official Account, taking care of account verification, content curation and translation.

Gladwell & Patterson continued to work with Appt on an ongoing basis until the COVID-19 pandemic, with Appt providing management of the gallery’s WeChat account. Appt worked closely with Gladwell & Patterson to create content plans, write and translate monthly articles, which were published and shared with the gallery’s growing audience in China.
