The Client: ADL Smartcare are trailblazers in the provision of evidence-based data, research, knowledge and intelligence on age-related decline. They work with manufacturers, local and national governments, designers, clinicians and healthcare organisations to monitor the ageing population in the UK and use their insights to develop products and strategies for slowing down the pattern of age-related decline.
The Challenge:
ADL Smartcare developed the ADL LifeCurve app in collaboration with Newcastle University, as a tool for tracking age-related decline. It identifies 20 Activities for Daily Living (ADLs) which are slowly lost during the ageing process. The rate at which an individual loses the ability to complete these activities is indicative of the expected quality and length of their life. For those in the middle of the curve of decline, preventative action can be taken in order to slow the rate of decline, improve their quality of life and reduce the burden on healthcare services.
ADL Smartcare wanted to develop an ADL LifeCurve App for consumers, to go alongside their platform of services for professionals. ADL wanted the app to help reduce the consumer’s rate of decline and provide them with tailored information; gather more in-depth data on national and global ageing trends; and generate new revenue streams by providing partner organisations custom data through the app.
The Solution:
Appt built the LifeCurve App to sit alongside ADL Smartcare’s broader healthy ageing digital service.
After downloading the app from the App Store, Google Play or Amazon, LifeCurve App users are able to determine their position on the Life Curve by answering a series of questions. They are then assigned ADL Smartcare as a default partner organisation and given a set of LifeCurve tasks which will help to improve their quality of life and slow down the rate of decline. Adding additional partners, such as a GP or local authority, will give users access to those partners’ specific LifeCurve tasks. Users can choose which tasks they would like to perform and how often, and they can set reminders in the app.
ADL Smartcare are managing the LifeCurve App through an online management portal - they are able to monitor KPIs; add new partners and generate a unique QR/numerical code for each partner; manage the content in the app; and generate a variety of custom reports.
Appt works with ADL Smartcare on an ongoing basis to further develop the app.
